In a troubled world, the case for times of reflection has never been stronger. Exploring both religious and secular representations of spirituality and humanity, I began to see the importance of light and its power to command focus. The Dutch Old Masters utilised light to denote the importance and status of their subjects. My work creates a space for the viewer to reflect  - surrounded by nature and with a singular neutral focus. I sought to create a space where the viewer can consider their own beliefs on spirituality and their own humanity. The sound element makes use of the shepherd tone, an auditory technique for an ever increasing pitch. It is often used in films to accentuate tension, but in this case I have chosen it to focus the viewer on the cube and allow other distractions to dissipate.
